It's More Than a Store—It's a Mission

Indiana Owned is on a mission to make it faster and easier for you to identify and support local businesses! Our members are business owners who live, work, and play right here in Indiana. They’re the ones donating food to shelters, sponsoring little league teams, and employing hundreds of thousands of people across the state.

Every business on IndianaOwned.com falls into one of two categories:

  • Originals: These are companies that are Indiana-owned and operated, headquartered here, and not part of an out-of-state chain.
  • Franchise Friends: These are franchises that are Indiana-owned and operated, with owners who live in Indiana and actively engage in our community.

The Unexpected Beginnings of Indiana Gifts

Co-Founder of Indiana Owned, Mel McMahon, had always dreamed of opening a retail store, but the creation of Indiana Gifts was anything but planned. When the COVID-19 pandemic shut down locally-owned shops, art shows, marketplaces, and events, many Indiana Owned members who made products weren’t equipped to sell online. Seeing a need, Mel and Indiana Owned member David Glenn of CoasterStone felt compelled to help. After some quick brainstorming and research, Indiana Gifts was launched in May 2020.

What started as an online-only shop featuring fun, beautiful, and sentimental products made by Indiana companies quickly grew. Every item in the store is hand-selected by the buying team, who love discovering new and unique products. Indiana Gifts offers jewelry, snacks, drinkware, journals, coffee, candles, scarves, hoodies, coasters, cheese boards, seasonings, pet treats, ornaments, stickers, beauty products, organizer kits, books, and more!

A Home in Lebanon

In the fall of 2022, Mel was approached by Claire Collett of the Boone County Economic Development Department about opening a holiday pop-up shop in Boone County. With the support of Missy Krulik from The Heart of Lebanon, Indiana Gifts opened on Main Street in late October, just in time for Mischief on Meridian.

The community’s overwhelming support inspired Mel to make the store permanent. By early 2023, Indiana Gifts had a new brick-and-mortar home at 101 E Main Street in Lebanon, Indiana, alongside the headquarters of Indiana Owned.
